About us

T-21 is a charity registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with the Charity Commission of England and Wales, established in October 2018 to provide valuable opportunities for young adults with Down’s Syndrome (our members) to develop new life skills, engage with their communities and pursue their ambitions.

In January 2022, we opened The Birch Tree Café in Easton on the Hill, a rural village with a population of c1,100 in Northamptonshire; which will provide meaningful employment, training and socialising opportunities for our young people, whilst serving our customers with top-quality coffee, snacks and cakes.

Role reports to: 

Chair of Board of Trustees 

The Role works closely with: 

  • Activities staff (Workshop, Cookery)
  • Trustees
  • Members and their Parents and Carers
  • Volunteers (Café, Garden)
  • Café staff

Responsibilities will include –

  •  Ensuring that safeguarding policies and procedures that keep our young people safe are understood and adhered to by all staff and volunteers on a day to day basisCoaching and supporting Team Members to maximise the development benefit to them individually, with regard to their diverse needs and capabilities.
  • Co-Ordinating the various strands of Activities within the programme 
  • Using technology to enhance learning and record progress of individual team members.
  • Developing life skills towards supported living within the team 
  • Input to long term development of the Activities Programme
  • Managing a small budget for materials etc
  • Organise the team on a day-to-day basis working alongside support workers and café staff and adapting plans as things arise to accommodate individuals changes in plans and café staffing requirements.

Vacancy for Activities Co-Ordinator at Birch Tree Café

We have an exciting and rewarding opportunity to work with an enthusiastic team of young adults who have Down’s Syndrome and organise and run an Activities Programme within a highly successful café environment. The Birch Tree Café gives the team the opportunity to gain work experience in a real-world setting.

Our Activities Programme ensures the team also have opportunities to learn practical skills in the workshop and via cooking classes with dedicated staff. Volunteers support other activities for example basic budgeting, and gardening.

 We would particularly welcome applications from people who have had experience of working with young people with additional needs.

Hours of Work:

9.30 – 3.30 4 days a week but the option of a job share is open.
